When no one wants to risk touching you.” JUST GORGEOUS. Mafi does a great job in describing Juliette’s isolation and desperation to be loved and wanted through lines like, “for 17 years, nearly impossible to beat gravity when no one is willing to give you a hand. The writing is just so unique and so poetic but it doesn’t ever slow down the pace of the book. The first point I have to make about this novel is the gorgeous writing style of Tahereh Mafi. It is during this time when she starts to understand the truth about the world around her and a tarrying threat of the new order, The Reestablishment, has for the world. People had always feared and loathed Juliette because of her strange abilities, including her own parents who wanted nothing to do with her. After being tossed from one clinic/research facility to the next for at least 3 years, she finally is placed in a mental asylum since people thought she was abnormal. Shatter Me is about a girl named Juliette who’s touch is fatal, meaning that it can literally pull the life out of anyone who touches her skin. Since there was a lot of buzz around this series, I decided to give this one a try. I have been trying to get out of a reading slump but none of the other books I choose ever made an impact. I finally decided to pick up this series after it has been sitting on my TBR list for such a long time and I am so glad I did.
